依足点再精进

公依文吉所指来时脚印。循序而进。雪虽深厚。拜不如前。寻领足点。礼之向前精进行二十里。抵小金山挂单。公之所遭遇。一字不提。翌日又起香拜二十里。过孟县至怀庆 ( 即沁阳也 ) 。　

宣化偈曰：
领礼足迹向前参。不知不觉小金山。
连续精进至孟庆。千辛万苦总不言。

Following the footprints with renewed vigor

The Master followed the tracks of Wen Chi, as he reversed his journey. Since the snow was quite deep, the Master could not bow as before, but he paid his respects while looking at each footprint. He traveled twenty miles in this way. Upon reaching Hsiao Chin Shan, he spent the evening at the monastery there. The Master did not even mention a word of the hardships he had encountered during his travels. The following day he resumed his bowing and proceeded another twenty miles through Meng Hsien to Huai Ch'ing (Cherished Joy).

The verse says:
Paying his respects while looking at the tracks, the Master progressed in his journey.
Absorbed in his work, he made his way and arrived at Hsiao Chin Shan.
With constant effort and energy, he got to Meng and Ch'ing.
Of the numerous hardships he underwent, not a word did he speak.
