福兴寺公闭关

朝鸡足山。树下宿。复闻石门内鱼磬声。翌日。金顶进香毕。复念佛祖道场。衰败如斯。全滇僧规堕落。发愿结茅接众。又被子孙寺庙所禁。涕叹赴昆明。岑宽慈留住福兴闭关。戒师护度岁。

宣化偈曰：

癸卯公年六十四。迎祥放生有雄鸡。
性极好斗伤同类。公教念佛授三皈。

Going into seclusion at Fu Hsing11 Monastery

While making a pilgrimage to Chicken Foot Mountain, they spent the night under a tree, and the following morning, heard the sound of the wooden fish and large bell inside the stone gate. The next day, after offering incense on Golden Summit, the Master thought of how this Way-place of the Buddhas and Patriarchs had degenerated to its present state, and about the neglect of the Sangha's moral rules in all Yunnan Province. He wanted to make a vow to live in a hut and receive traveling Sanghans. but was prevented from doing so by the hereditary monastic system. The Master sighed tearfully and went on to K'un Ming. At the request of Upasaka Ts'en K'uan Ts'e, the Master stayed at Fu Hsing (Fortune and Prosperity) Monastery, where he went into seclusion with the aid of Dharma Master Chieh Ch'en and passed the New Year.

The gatha says:
The Master's age was sixty-four years in the cyclical year Kuei Mao.12
Liberated at Ying Hsiang13 Temple there was a dauntless cock
Whose nature was fond of fighting, and it injured those of its kind.
The Master taught it to be mindful of the Buddha, and it received the Three Refuges.
